Or soursop, or guanabana… Nope, we haven’t just mashed the keyboard with our palm: these are ‘fruits that most people have never heard of’, and they’re star ingredients at new Islington cocktail bar Laki Kane. Inspired by all things totally tropical, the two-level bar features rope ladders, palm-leaf decor, ‘call for service’ buttons and a chuff-load of rum. And we DO mean a chuff-load: this place has its own micro distillery, creating spirits to be put to good use in specialty drinks like the Laki Kane (dark rum, chocolate vodka, soursop tea, cupuaçu, guanabana and sugar cane juice), and the Pin-Up Zombie (three rums shaken with cherry and mountain pine liqueurs). Dare you to try saying ‘guanabana’ after a couple of those…”
