Our Story
From a bold idea to London’s tropical destination, the journey of Laki Kane is one of passion, creativity and escapism.
The story begins with three friends: Georgi Radev and Steve Kyprianou, who shared a dream of bringing something fresh and vibrant to London’s nightlife scene. What started as a rooftop cocktail party infused with tropical fruit and inventive syrups soon became the blueprint for a bar unlike any other.
In July 2018, Laki Kane opened its doors on Upper Street in Islington. From day one the goal was clear: deliver more than drinks, provide a full-on island escape in the heart of London.
Building our identity
More than just a cocktail bar, Laki Kane became known for its immersive environment. Think bold tropical décor, palm-print wallpapers, bamboo details, elephant motifs, swinging chairs and even a micro rum distillery upstairs. Every table was labelled after a different island and guests could call for service with a button at their dress.
In our cocktail lab we crafted drinks using house-pressed sugar cane juice, exotic fruits like cupuaçu and soursop, and no refined sugar, a commitment to quality and originality.
A destination for all
Over the years Laki Kane evolved into one of London’s most talked-about tropical cocktail and dining experiences. Based in Angel/Islington, it became a go‐to spot for immersive evenings, events and vibrant atmosphere. Our food offering, inspired by South-East Asia and the Caribbean, complemented the drink experience.
But we didn’t stop there. At Laki Kane we believe in experiences that engage, teach and entertain. That’s why we launched our rum-making masterclasses and built a micro-distillery upstairs, giving guests a behind-the-scenes view of our craft. With the Spiced Dry Rum Club, participants taste, experiment and create their own personalised rum using our copper alembic stills, a class that elevates drink into art.
We built a loyal community and developed a reputation for creative mixology, unforgettable nights, and a place where you could escape the everyday and step into a world of island flair.
Looking ahead
Though the original venue’s chapter in Islington has drawn to a close, our brand story is far from over. As we continue to bring Laki Kane’s magic to new spaces—through venue partnerships, pop-ups, seasonal takeovers and festival activations—we carry forward our heritage, our following and our creative assets to ensure every iteration remains unmistakably Laki Kane.

Meet the Laki Kane Founders
Over the years, Laki Kane has been shaped by an incredible team of creative minds, passionate mixologists, and dedicated hospitality professionals who helped bring the brand to life. At the heart of it all are Steve Kyprianou and Georgi Radev, the founding partners who have been here since day one.
Their shared vision, to create a tropical escape in the heart of London, inspired everything that Laki Kane has become. From concept and design to the creation of award winning cocktails and unforgettable experiences, Steve and Georgi have guided the brand’s journey with creativity, authenticity, and a deep love for great hospitality.
Georgi Radev
Creative Director Georgi Radev opened and consulted on London’s renowed Mahiki Bar, whilst operating the venue for over 11 years and overseeing its global expansion. Founding the Spirit of Tiki Festival and benefitting from a wealth of expertise in rum and Tiki cocktails, Georgi Radev was voted the World Tiki Bartender of the Year in 2011 and the London Bartender of the Year in 2015. The Creative Director is responsible for overseeing menu and venue development, contributing significantly to the building of Laki Kane’s unique.
Steve Kyprianou
Steve Kyprianou is the Managing Director of Laki Kane. With over 30 years of experience in corporate, telecommunications, and hospitality sectors, he benefits from extensive management expertise and an innovative approach to problem solving. The Managing Director champions collaboration and communication and is committed to creating a positive work environment and a culture of excellence whilst driving Laki Kane.
